Orthokeratology

Ortho-K lenses for overnight orthokeratology

What is Orthokeratology?

Ortho-K or orthokeratology is an innovative, reversible and safe visual treatment that temporarily reduces myopia while you sleep.

It consists of using special contact lenses designed to be worn overnight. While you sleep, these lenses modify the curvature of the cornea in a controlled way. When you wake up, the lenses are removed and the effect achieved overnight allows you to enjoy clear vision during the day, without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

As this is a temporary effect, it is necessary to keep using the lenses according to the schedule indicated by the specialist, since the cornea gradually returns to its original shape and the previous prescription reappears.

If you are interested in stopping the use of glasses and contact lenses, or if you need perfect vision for sports or public examinations, do not hesitate to contact us and we will arrange an appointment at one of our more than 130 optical stores in Spain.

Benefits of Orthokeratology

Orthokeratology offers the possibility of achieving good vision without the need for surgery or the use of glasses or contact lenses during the day, using Ortho-K contact lenses only at night while sleeping.

The treatment is reversible thanks to the corneal structure, which is flexible, plastic and moldable. This means that, when lens use is stopped, the changes that had occurred will return to their initial state.

Who is Orthokeratology suitable for?

Since no visual aid is needed during the day, orthokeratology becomes an ideal system for:

  • People who have difficulties wearing glasses or contact lenses in a conventional wearing schedule.
  • Athletes, for all types of sports.
  • People whose profession requires them to see well without any correction: police officers, firefighters, civil servants, etc.
  • Children, as a method of myopia control, since it can help reduce the progression of myopia.

Adaptation and treatment duration

Adaptation is achieved in approximately one week. During that week, we will carry out a couple of check-ups and after seven days you should have 100% visual acuity, so you would not need to wear contact lenses or glasses during the day.

The duration of Ortho-K lens treatment is one year, as the lenses are replaced annually. During this time, they should be renewed and the effects of the treatment checked. In addition, for the correct use of overnight orthokeratology contact lenses, it is essential to strictly follow the recommendations given by the contact lens specialist and comply with the following visit schedule:
